A Montgomery County driver had a memorable nighttime encounter - with an 8-foot alligator, according to first responders.
Waugh-Mt. Meigs Fire/Rescue in Montgomery County reported that the incident happened early Monday morning.
The crash happened at on Wares Ferry Road at about 3:20 a.m.
The driver was traveling toward Interstate 85, according to WSFA, and struck an alligator in the roadway.
Officials said the driver had only minor injuries. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
The alligator died in the collision.
Alligator encounters in Alabama are rare, but one measuring 10 feet 3 inches long had to be euthanized last week after it was reportedly “acting abnormally” in a Huntsville neighborhood.
